When death takes you
I’ll come to your grave
but not to cry…
I’ll come to your grave
to talk with you…
We will chat,
change the world again
as usual
as at every moment
and every new day
the gods give us
from here to the hereafter…
I’ll come to your grave
to keep you company
to give you news
and confide in you
to tell you my sorrows
those that do not vanish
and my secrets too
to whom else could I tell them
without being judged too low?
When you’re not here anymore
when death takes you
I’ll come to your grave
to whisper to you
and to laugh too
to simply pass the time
and to live
with you…

mais pas pour y pleurer…

pour parler avec toi…
On pourra bavarder,
refaire le monde encore
comme à notre habitude
comme à chaque moment
et chaque nouveau jour
que nous donnent les dieux
d’ici à l’au-delà…

te tenir compagnie
te donner des nouvelles
et me confier à toi
te raconter mes peines
celles qui ne passent pas
et mes secrets aussi
à qui d’autre les dire
sans être jugé trop bas ?
Quand tu ne seras plus là

the same cicadas
that sing in the olive trees…
the same Greece
that I want you to love…

les batailles
de Bouboulina
ou les mégots
de Mélina…
C’est le même soleil
qui brûle l’été et réchauffe l’hiver
la même mer
qui prend les marins et amuse les enfants
les mêmes cigales
qui crissent aux oliviers…
la même Grèce
que je veux te faire aimer…
The Poet
Born in 1971 in Saint-Etienne, Alexandre Mexis is a French author of poems, plays, short-stories and short-films. He is also a painter and an English teacher and lecturer, specialised in English literature. His collections of poetry include Eros & Thanatos (2015) in reference to Freud, Un été grec (2017), a trip to Greece through poems, drawings and watercolours and Chimère.s (2019), words that sway and capsize to the rhythm of life, carefully touching every moment to better grasp its beauty. In 2020, he has a charcoal and pastel exhibition, Mythos, on Greek mythology and releases his new short-film Mustang.s.
